B2B Cambodia Market Update - 3 June 2024

This is a B2B Cambodia Market Update for 3 June 2024, reviewing the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) and global markets.

  • The Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index was down 3.35 points, or 0.81 per cent, to 411.66
  • Total trade volume was light, with 132,553 shares changing hands at a total trading value of around 456.5 million Khmer riel or over 111,600 US dollars. 
  • On the Main Board, only one company saw a percentage increase – Mengly J.Quach Education Plc (MJQE) went up 0.49 per cent or 10 riel to 2,050 riel per share. 
  • On the downside, we saw five stocks with percentage drops, with the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (PPSP) being the biggest percentage loser, down 2.13 per cent or 50 riel to 2,300 riel per share, followed by CAMGSM Plc., down 1.24 per cent or 30 riel to 2,390 riel per share.
  • Nonetheless, both the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone and CAMGSM recorded the first and second highest trade volumes of the day. 
  • In the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone’s case, 52,687 shares changed hands at a trade value of around 122 million Khmer Riel or around 29,800 US dollars, accounting for around 35 per cent of all shares traded on June 3rd. 
  • For CAMGSM, 48,656 shares changed hands at a trade value of 116.4 million Khmer riel or around 28,400 US dollars, making up around 32 per cent of the day’s market activity.
  • On the growth board DBD Engineering was up 0.45 per cent or 10 riel to 2,240 riel per share, while JS Land went down 0.47 per cent or 20 riel to 4,200 riel per share.
     
  • In other business news, GOLDEN TREE CO., LTD. announced the first semi-annual interest payment for 2024 to bondholders of the company’s green bonds.  
  • A total interest payment of around 212.5 million Khmer Riel or 51,300 US dollars will be divided across all bondholder’s and distributed to their accounts on June 6, 2024.
     
  • The Khmer riel to USD continued to weaken to 4,093 riel per US dollar, while the US dollar index went slightly up to 104.71.
  • Oil prices were little changed on Monday, as investors weighed a move by producer group OPEC+ to extend deep output cuts well into 2025. 
  • Brent futures for August delivery were down 14 cents, or 0.2 per cent, to 80.97 US dollars a barrel, after falling to a session's low of 80.55 US dollars.
  • Gold prices were little changed on Monday as traders awaited more U.S. economic data this week after a recent report showed that inflation stabilised and lifted hopes for the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates later this year.
  • Spot gold was nearly unchanged at 2,323.87 US dollars per ounce, while U.S. gold futures fell 0.1 per cent to 2,344.40 US dollars.
  • Stock futures inched higher Monday ahead of the first trading day in June.
  • Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 113 points, or 0.3 per cent. 
  • S&P 500 futures rose 0.3 per cent, and Nasdaq 100 futures were up 0.4 per cent
