  • We start with a quick look at regional markets. Asian shares fell on Friday as investors grappled with wild swings in bond and currency markets ahead of key US jobs data, while a widening military build-up in the Gulf kept oil prices elevated. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan fell 0.5% and was on track for a weekly decline of 1.7%.
  • Japan’s Nikkei dropped 0.7% but was set for a gain of 3.1% for the week. Chinese markets are closed for a public holiday through October 7.
  • Zooming in on Cambodia’s market—the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index was up 3.84 points or 0.63% to 613.35.
  • Total trade volume was down with 1,434,506 shares changing hands at a total value of 6.43 billion riel or over $1.58 million US dollars.
  • On the main board, three stocks were up, led by CamGSM, while five stocks were down with ACLEDA Bank as the biggest loser of the day.
  • Over on the growth board, JS Land was up, while Picasso City Garden and DBD Engineering were down.
  • Shifting to the exchange rate, the Khmer riel to USD weakened slightly to 4,056 riel per US Dollar, while the US Dollar index hovered around 101.96.
  • Looking at global commodities, oil prices fell about 3% and European gasoil futures dropped over 5% on Friday after reports ‌of talks on additional diesel and crude stock releases, easing concerns over tight global energy supplies.
  • Brent fell 2.77% to $99.48 US dollars a barrel. West Texas Intermediate dropped 3.61% to $89.52 US dollars a barrel. (0842 GMT)
  • Gold prices were largely steady but headed for a second consecutive weekly decline, ‌as a stronger US dollar and elevated Treasury yields weighed on bullion ahead of closely watched US payrolls data.
  • Spot gold held its ground at $4,181.59 US dollars per ounce, but has lost more than 2% for the week so far. US gold futures edged 0.2% higher to $4,212 US dollars. (0833 GMT)
  • Looking at the crypto market, Bitcoin surged past the $86,000 dollar mark, trading at $86,000.20 US dollars with a 2.18% increase during intraday trading on October 2. This rise indicates growing investor interest and momentum in the cryptocurrency market. The price movement could influence further trading activity and market sentiment in the coming days.

  • Moving on now to other business-related news,
    • Cambodia and Vietnam have agreed to sign a key implementation plan to renovate and beautify Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Monuments across the Kingdom, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and comprehensive cooperation. The President of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodian Motherland (SFDCM) announced the agreement while co-chairing the 9th meeting between the SFDCM and Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defence in Hanoi on October 2. During the meeting, both sides reviewed past cooperation achievements, discussed future directions, and signed the 9th Protocol on the Implementation of the Construction, Renovation, and Beautification Project for the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Monuments in Cambodia.
    • The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) has rejected rumours circulating on social media claiming that certain banking and financial institutions are facing difficulties or could encounter problems in the near future, describing the reports as baseless and misleading. In a statement issued on October 2, the central bank said the unverified reports risk harming the interests of the public and banking service users, while undermining confidence in the wider banking system. The NBC strongly condemned the dissemination and intentional distortion of false information aimed at destabilising the economy and called on competent authorities to take legal action against those involved. The central bank also urged the public not to disseminate or share information without clear sources, and to verify claims through official channels, particularly the NBC and relevant competent authorities.
    • Cambodia will host a major international agricultural forum and exhibition later this month to promote investment, strengthen local agro-processing, and expand the Kingdom’s agrifood exports, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF). The Cambodia Agriculture Forum and Exhibition 2026 (CAFE26) will take place from October 23 to 25 at the Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre in Phnom Penh, aiming to bring together key stakeholders across the agricultural value chain, including farmers, processors, investors and policymakers. The three-day event is being organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO). The forum and exhibition is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, explore investment opportunities and identify practical solutions to challenges facing Cambodia’s agricultural sector. Agriculture remains an important pillar for Cambodia, contributing to food security, employment, rural livelihoods and export earnings.
