- We start with a quick look at regional markets. Stocks rose during the Asian trading session after a lukewarm U.S. jobs report poured cold water on the prospect of an imminent rate hike from the U.S. Federal Reserve and regional activity gauges pointed to an economic expansion during June.
- After a shaky start, MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rose 2.2% following two consecutive days of declines. South Korea's Kospi swung between gains and losses, before surging more than 6% as buyers pounced on battered chipmaker stocks.
- Japan's Nikkei 225 reversed early losses to trade 1.2% higher.
- Zooming in on Cambodia’s market—the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index was up 0.72 points or 0.16% to 455.3.
- Total trade volume was up with 89,233 shares changing hands at a total value of 473.9 million riel or close to $119,000 US dollars.
- On the main board, two stocks were up, led by MJQ Education, while only one stock, Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, was down. Over on the growth board, JS Land was up and Picasso City Garden was down, while DBD Engineering remained flat.
- Shifting to the exchange rate, the Khmer riel to USD weakened slightly to 4,033 riel per US Dollar, while the US Dollar index hovered around 101.73.
- Looking at global commodities, oil prices were little changed on Friday before a long holiday weekend in the U.S., as traders held on to hopes that attempts to secure peace in the Middle East between the United States and Iran would succeed. Brent futures climbed 0.1% to $71.87 US dollars a barrel. West Texas Intermediate was down 0.09% to $68.63 US dollars a barrel. (0737 GMT)
- Gold rose and was set for a weekly gain after four straight weeks of declines, as weaker U.S. jobs data reduced expectations for a near-term U.S. Federal Reserve rate increase.
- Spot gold was up 1.5% at $4,184.75 US dollars per ounce, after hitting its highest since June 23. U.S. gold futures for August delivery gained 1.73% to $4,197.20 US dollars. (0835 GMT)
Looking at the crypto market, Bitcoin traded around $61,300 US dollars on Friday, after rebounding from a 21-month low of $57,800 US dollars earlier in the week. Ethereum steadied at $1,700 dollars after rebounding nearly 10% in the previous two days.
- Moving on now to other business-related news,
- The Cambodian government outlined four key strategies to enhance national competitiveness during the official inauguration of the TOYOTA HILUX TRAVO assembly line at Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. in the Royal Group Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone on July 2. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and CDC First Vice Chairman, and H.E. Ueno Atsushi, Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia. The four strategies outlined by the government are reducing trade and investment costs, accelerating the clean energy transition with a target of 70 per cent clean energy by 2030, strengthening cybersecurity through the Anti-Cyber Scam Law, and improving investment facilitation through digitalisation, including the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC)’s cdcIPM system and streamlined public services.
- The Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) has officially breached a major funding milestone, mobilising over $703 million US dollars in total capital. Speaking at the IPO ceremony of a Real Estate (Housing Development) company held on July 2, H.E. Hong Sok Hour, CEO of Cambodia Securities Exchange, said that to date, the stock market has a total of 27 listed companies, including 12 companies listed for selling shares and 15 other companies listed for selling bonds. These 27 companies have raised a total capital of approximately $703 million US dollars from the stock market.
