  • We start with a quick look at regional markets. Asian share markets advanced on Monday, driven by chipmakers capitalising on the relentless demand for AI data processing.
  • Meanwhile, oil prices softened following reports that higher volumes of crude were being exported from the Gulf region than previously estimated, despite the ongoing conflict. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan added 0.9%, and Chinese blue chips gained 0.2%. Japan's Nikkei was shut, but futures rose 0.2%.
  • Zooming in on Cambodia’s market—the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index was up 6.42 points or 1.1% to 591.7.
  • Total trade volume was down with 843,073 shares changing hands at a total value of 7.59 billion riel or over $1.87 million US dollars.
  • On the main board, six stocks were up, led by Grand Twins International, while two stocks were down, with Pestech Cambodia as the biggest loser of the day.
  • Over on the growth board, DBD Engineering was up, Picasso City Garden was down, while JS Land stayed flat.
  • Shifting to the exchange rate, the Khmer riel to USD weakened slightly to 4,054 riel per US Dollar, while the US Dollar index hovered around 100.27.
  • Looking at global commodities, oil prices slid to their lowest in more than a week on Monday as investors hoped for diplomatic progress on the Iran war due to this ‌week's UN meeting and eyed a partial recovery in shipments from Saudi Arabia despite ongoing attacks by Yemen's Houthis.
  • The Brent contract for November was at $102.09 US dollars a barrel, down 1.71%, after settling 0.91% lower on Friday. The WTI October contract that is expiring on Tuesday fell 1.96% to $98.33 US dollars a barrel following a 1.58% drop in the previous session. (0655 GMT)
  • Gold prices slipped on Monday as market participants assessed developments in the Middle East and their implications for inflation and interest rates.
  • Spot gold fell 0.3% to $4,362.60 US dollars per ounce after hitting a one-week high on Friday. US gold futures were down 0.6% at $4,400.20 US dollars. (0911 GMT)
  • Looking at the crypto market, Bitcoin rose nearly 6% during the week and was trading around $81,000 US dollars, extending its rebound to 29% over the past 35 days. The move pushed Bitcoin’s weekly candlestick – the graphical representation of a week’s price action – above the 50-week average, rather than merely testing it.

  • Moving on now to other business-related news,
    • The Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications officially launched the websites of 25 capital and provincial Departments of Information to provide the public with official information in an effective, comprehensive and reliable manner. The launch ceremony was held on September 21 and was presided over by H.E. Neth Pheaktra, Minister of Information, and H.E. Chea Vandeth, Minister of Post and Telecommunications. H.E. Neth Pheaktra said the achievement was the result of strong commitment, close cooperation and joint efforts between the two ministries, driven by a common spirit, goal and direction to use digital technology to provide citizens with information that is faster, more comprehensive, more effective and more trustworthy.
    • The Cambodia Division of the 8th Belt and Road Initiative Short Video Competition has been officially launched, inviting contributors to, participants in and witnesses to China-Cambodia Belt and Road cooperation projects to share their stories through short videos. Themed “China-Cambodia Together: Lancang-Mekong Cooperation for Shared Prosperity,” the competition aims to showcase stories of China-Cambodia cooperation, strengthen people-to-people ties through digital platforms, promote mutual learning and further advance bilateral relations, according to the organisers. The 2026 competition marks the 10th anniversary of the official launch of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC).
    • Chief Bank has been placed under temporary administration by the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) after inspections were said to have revealed non-compliance with certain regulations. According to a press release issued by the NBC on September 21, accounting and business advisory firm, Baker Tilly, has been appointed as Chief Bank's temporary administrator for a period of three months. This notice of temporary administration follows a clarification issued by Chief Bank earlier this month on the continuation of regular banking operations after the Phnom Penh Municipal Court ordered a freeze on one of the bank's shareholder's personal accounts. At the time, Chief Bank reassured its customers that this court-ordered freeze only targeted a shareholder's personal assets and did not involve the bank itself, thus leaving all retail, corporate, and digital financial services fully secure and unaffected.
