- We start with a quick look at regional markets.Asian markets were choppy on Monday as investors weighed AI-driven growth against rising cost pressures, while South Korea's sweeping investment push into chips and AI steadied sentiment after recent losses and a fragile U.S.-Iran ceasefire.
- The MSCI EM Asia gauge inched higher and the index tracking ASEAN stocks advanced 0.6%.
- South Korea's KOSPI, which lost 7% last week, shed as much as 3.4% earlier in the session on Monday.
- The Nikkei 225 ended 0.15% higher. Stocks in Taiwan gained as much as 2.1%.
- Zooming in on Cambodia’s market—the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index was up 4.96 points or 1.1% to 455.01.
- Total trade volume was down with 174,088 shares changing hands at a total value of 1.31 billion riel or close to $327,000 US dollars.
- On the main board, three stocks were up, led by CAMGSM while four stocks were down, with Phnom Penh Autonomous Port as the biggest loser of the day. Over on the growth board, JS Land and Picasso City Garden were up, while DBD Engineering stayed flat.
- Shifting to the exchange rate, the Khmer riel to USD weakened slightly to 4,026 riel per US Dollar, while the US Dollar index hovered around 101.28.
- Looking at global commodities, oil prices steadied on Monday as Iran and the United States agreed to halt recent hostilities in the Gulf and Middle
- East producers pushed ahead with loading oil and liquefied natural gas despite fresh ship attacks. Brent crude futures were up 4 cents at $72.03 US dollars a barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude gained 44 cents to $69.67 US dollars a barrel. (0803 GMT)
- Gold fell as recent hostilities in the Gulf fueled inflation concerns that added to U.S. Federal Reserve rate-hike expectations, pressuring the non-yielding metal.
- Spot gold was down 0.9% at $4,049.90 US dollars per ounce.
- U.S. gold futures for August delivery lost 0.8% to $4,063.50 US dollars per ounce. (0857 GMT)
Looking at the crypto market, Bitcoin is trading near $60,000 US dollars, experiencing volatility as the market absorbs record outflows from U.S. spot ETFs. The cryptocurrency is on track for its worst monthly performance since June 2022, down roughly 18% for the month amid waning institutional demand and shifting macroeconomic liquidity.
- Moving on now to other business-related news,
- On June 29, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Sun Chanthol, met with the President of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, or CCECC, to discuss infrastructure development. The CCECC President briefly highlighted the corporation’s background and specialised capabilities as a major Chinese state-owned enterprise with extensive expertise and experience in developing infrastructure mega-projects across many countries worldwide, including the construction of bridges, roads, railways, airports, and industrial parks. The Deputy Prime Minister welcomed the CCECC’s commitment and urged the corporation to expand its investments into high-value sectors to boost the economy and create jobs, aligning with the Cambodian government’s Pentagonal Strategy.
- According to an announcement from ARDB Bank on June 29, H.E. Ban Lim, Deputy Director-General of ARDB Bank, participated in the annual "Summer Fancy Food Show" in New York City, in close cooperation with the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF). This event marks the opening of another new chapter for the Cambodian rice sector to showcase the potential, quality, and high standards of Cambodian rice to the world through the cooperation between these two key institutions. ARDB Bank has expressed a strong commitment to providing financial support to the agricultural value chain, helping to boost the production capacity and processing of Cambodian rice to comply with the high-standard requirements of the US and European markets. Meanwhile, the Cambodia Rice Federation continues to facilitate and open new market gateways by bringing Cambodia's top exporting companies to meet, discuss, and build direct trade partnerships with major global buyers.
- On June 29, H.E. Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce and Co-Chair of Working Group “G” representing the Cambodian government, together with Neak Oknha LIM Heng, Vice President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce and Co-Chair of Working Group “G” representing the private sector, presided over the meeting of the Working Group on Production Processing Export and Trade Facilitation for the first semester of 2026, as well as to set the work direction for the second semester of 2026. The meeting was attended by members representing relevant ministries and institutions, as well as many representatives from the private sector. The meeting was organised with the objective of addressing challenges raised by the private sector, with the means to strengthen trade facilitation, enhancing transparency in doing business, and diversifying market access for Cambodia’s potential products in international markets
