  • We start with a quick look at regional markets. Asian shares sank on Friday as a near 40% rise in oil prices this month, due to the intensifying conflict in the Gulf, revived inflation fears, rattling bond markets and stoking rate hike expectations globally.
  • MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan divided 2.3%, trimming this week's gain to 0.7%. Japan’s Nikkei slid 2.8%, also heading for a weekly rise of 0.7%.
  • South Korea's KOSPI tumbled 4.8% and was set for a fifth straight week of declines with a 1% drop.
  • Hong Kong's Hang Seng index fell 1.1%.
  • Zooming in on Cambodia’s market—the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index was up 2.23 points or 0.49% to 453.7.Total trade volume was up with 270,487 shares changing hands at a total value of 991 million riel or over $245,000 US dollars.
  • On the main board, six stocks were up, led by Royal Group Phnom Penh SEZ, while only one stock, Phnom Penh Autonomous Port, was down.
  • Over on the growth board, JS Land was up, Picasso City Garden was down, and DBD Engineering stayed flat.
  • Shifting to the exchange rate, the Khmer riel to USD remained stable at 4,041 riel per US Dollar, while the US Dollar index hovered around 101.35.
  • Looking at global commodities, oil futures prices retreated on Friday but were still set for hefty weekly gains because of concerns about disrupted energy flows in the Red ‌Sea and fears of further escalation in the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran. Brent futures fell 1.11% to $99.55 US dollars a barrel.
  • West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures was down 1.21% at $91.06 US dollars a barrel, on track for a 10.4% weekly rise. (0648 GMT)
  • Gold edged lower after falling 2% in the previous session, ‌as Brent crude's move back above $100 dollars a barrel stoked inflation concerns and strengthened the case for higher interest rates ahead of a U.S. Federal Reserve policy meeting next week.
  • Spot gold eased 0.2% to $4,037.29 US dollars per ounce, with prices down more than $130 dollars from a two-week high hit on Wednesday. U.S. gold futures for August delivery were 0.3% lower at $4,039.80 US dollars. Bullion was still on track for a small weekly gain of 0.5%. (0702 GMT)
  • Looking at the crypto market, Bitcoin was trading essentially flat near $65,450 US dollars, and still up 3% over seven days, while Ether dropped 2.5%, leading a broad but shallow retreat across the majors as the market consolidated a strong week.

The Khmer Enterprise board of trustees held its 20th meeting to review the progress of ongoing programmes and to approve the organisation’s strategic direction for the next phase of implementation aimed at strengthening its entrepreneurship support in Cambodia on July 23. Chaired by H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Khmer Enterprise, the meeting focused on assessing the implementation of key programs and improving coordination mechanisms to ensure that Khmer Enterprise's initiatives deliver greater impact for startups and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the country.
    • A fresh shipment of 220 Holstein dairy cows from Australia has arrived in Cambodia, aiming to significantly scale up local fresh milk production and meet rising domestic demand. The Australian Embassy in Cambodia announced on July 24 that the cattle import is part of Kirisu Farm's ongoing expansion strategy. With this latest addition, the farm's herd has expanded to approximately 1,400 cows. The Embassy noted that the expansion will help reduce Cambodia's reliance on imported dairy products, while generating new employment opportunities and accelerating growth across the local dairy sector. Australia supported the expansion effort in close collaboration with Kirisu Farm through the Cambodia Australia Partnership Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED), its flagship economic development initiative in Cambodia.
