After nearly a year of searching for exceptional artists and bringing an ambitious international music competition to Cambodia, GIGIL Phnom Penh has successfully delivered the country's inaugural Eurovision Asia national selection, in partnership with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Voxovation.
On October 17, 2026, at AEON Mall Sen Sok, seven professional Cambodian performing artists competed in the 'Cambodia’s Finest Voice – Song for Eurovision Song Contest Asia' national selection show, and the country now has its representative: Monetrey, a fast-rising singer-songwriter, ready to carry the country's voice alongside artists from 10 other Asian countries. For Cambodia, this is more than a singing competition. It is an opportune moment for the Kingdom’s creativity to be heard far beyond its borders.
GIGIL Phnom Penh is driven by a belief in the enormous potential of Cambodian creative talent, potential that remains largely unrecognised and yet to receive the international recognition it deserves. It is this vision that inspired the team to take on the challenge of bringing Eurovision to Cambodia.
For more than seven decades, the Eurovision Song Contest has brought countries together through music, giving artists a platform to showcase their skill, originality and cultural identity to audiences across borders. Organised by the EBU and Voxovation, it is one of the world’s most-watched live music shows, reaching more than 100 million viewers each year. It has launched global stars, including ABBA, and become a cultural phenomenon that unites audiences through the universal language of music.
In 2026, Eurovision took a new step with its first edition in Asia, opening a new platform for participating countries across the continent to share their music with a wider regional audience. Bringing a competition of this scale to Cambodia was not without its challenges. For GIGIL Phnom Penh, the goal was not simply to organise a music competition, but to help establish a new platform where local creativity can reach beyond familiar audiences.
Ultimately, Eurovision Cambodia is about more than one artist, one performance or one competition. It is about opening doors, creating opportunities and encouraging wider recognition of what Cambodia’s artists have to offer and can achieve.
For GIGIL Phnom Penh, the Eurovision Cambodia national selection show marks an important milestone in a larger vision: to connect Cambodian creativity with opportunities beyond the Kingdom, so that local artists can aspire to bigger stages and broader audiences.
