  • We start with a quick look at regional markets. ​Stocks rose in Asian trading on Thursday as Nvidia's earnings report beat estimates, lifting tech hardware manufacturers and reviving investor ‌confidence after data overnight showed that the U.S. Federal Reserve's preferred inflation measure is still running hot. 
  • MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares excluding Japan was up 0.2%, stretching its gains into a third consecutive day after Nvidia. South Korea's KOSPI rose 1%, ​paring earlier gains. Taiwanese shares rose 0.3%, while the Nikkei 225 slid 0.3%.
  • Zooming in on Cambodia’s market—the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index was down 15.31 points or 2.73% to 544.78. 
  • Total trade volume was up with 2,060,129 shares changing hands at a total value of 10.9 billion riel or over $2.7 million US dollars.
  • On the main board, eight stocks were down, while only one stock, Grand Twins International, stayed flat. Over on the growth board, all three stocks were down.
  • Shifting to the exchange rate, the Khmer riel to USD strengthened slightly to 4,046 riel per US Dollar, while the US Dollar index hovered around 99.17.
  • Looking at global commodities, oil prices fell more than $1 dollar on Thursday, extending ‌a streak of losses, on expectations that talks between Iran and Qatar might open the Strait of Hormuz and reduce supply disruptions from the Middle East war. 
  • Brent crude futures were down 1.55% to $86.48 US dollars a barrel, in line for a fourth ​day of declines. West Texas Intermediate crude futures fell 1.7% to $80.83 US dollars, in line for a ​fifth day of losses. (0800 GMT)
  • Gold prices drifted higher on Thursday as so-called dollar ​debasement fears lingered, while attention shifted to highly anticipated remarks from the U.S. ‌Federal Reserve Chair this week. 
  • Spot gold was up 0.4% at $4,611.16 US dollars per ounce. U.S. gold futures rose 0.3% to $4,664.50 US dollars. (0630 GMT)
  • Looking at the crypto market, Bitcoin was hovering near $79,800 US dollars after its sharp late-August recovery encountered pushback above the $81,000 dollar level. Ethereum’s price was at $2,497.08 US dollars with a rise of 1.6% in 24 hours.

     

  • Moving on now to other business-related news,
    • The Cambodia Expo Series 2026 was officially opened in Phnom Penh on August 26, providing a platform for businesses and investors to seek new partners, establish cooperation, strengthen business relations, and expand supply chains. The three-day exhibition, being held from August 26 to 28, features a wide range of potential sectors, including agriculture, livestock, aquaculture, food and beverages, pet products, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, laboratory equipment, cosmetics, and general consumer products. Speaking at the opening ceremony, H.E. Samheng Bora, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, said the expo serves as an important platform to connect investors, businesses, potential buyers, and consumers from Cambodia and abroad, while creating opportunities for business matching and expanding international trade relations. 
    • Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening trilateral tourism cooperation through the shared vision of “One Journey, Three Destinations” for the mutual benefit of the three countries and their peoples. The commitment was made at the 1st Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam (CLV) Tourism Ministers’ Meeting, held on August 26 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on the sidelines of the 20th International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City. H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism of Cambodia, led a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Tourism to the meeting, which brought together tourism ministers and senior officials from the three countries.
    • Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has underscored the indispensable role of peace in national development, stressing that Cambodia’s experience demonstrates how peace creates stability, stability builds confidence, confidence generates opportunities, and broadly shared opportunities strengthen social cohesion. The Prime Minister made these remarks during his keynote address at the opening ceremony of the 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference, being held in Cambodia under the theme, “Solidarity for Peace and Shared Prosperity: Strengthening International Law and Resolving Conflicts Peacefully.” In his address, the Prime Minister presented the Royal Government of Cambodia’s strategic perspective on the relationship between peace, resilience, inclusive development and international cooperation. The 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference officially kicked off on August 27 in Phnom Penh, bringing together Speakers of Parliament, representatives of parliamentary speakers, heads of inter-parliamentary organisations, relevant international organisations, and parliamentary delegations from Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Oceania, and Latin America.
