  • We start with a quick look at regional markets. Asian stock markets experienced a broad pullback, with technology and AI sectors leading declines amid rising crude oil prices. 
  • Japan’s Nikkei 225 index edged down 0.05%, while South Korea’s KOSPI slipped 0.10%. 
  • Chinese markets were hit harder, with the Shenzhen Component dropping 0.9% and Hong Kong’s market opening 1.23% lower.
  • Zooming in on Cambodia’s market—the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index was down 2.16 points or 0.4% to 538.86. 
  • Total trade volume was down with 687,737 shares changing hands at a total value of 3 billion riel or nearly $756,000 US dollars.
  • On the main board, three stocks were up, led by Royal Group Phnom Penh SEZ, while four were down with CAMGSM as the biggest loser of the day. 
  • Over on the growth board, Picasso City Garden was down, while JS Land and DBD Engineering stayed flat.
  • Shifting to the exchange rate, the Khmer riel to USD remained stable at 4,047 riel per US Dollar, while the US Dollar index hovered around 99.56.
  • Looking at global commodities, oil prices gained on Tuesday as the resumption of fighting between the U.S. and Iran in the Middle East renewed fears of supply disruptions from the world's key crude-producing region. 
  • Brent crude futures were up ​1.3% to $91.67 US dollars a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was up ​1.48% to $87.03 US dollars. (0739 GMT)
  • Gold ​fell over 1% on Tuesday, pressured by elevated U.S. Treasury yields, while markets ‌awaited key U.S. labour market data for fresh signals on the U.S. Federal Reserve's monetary policy outlook. 
  • Spot gold was down 1.2% to $4,393.89 US dollars per ounce, its lowest level since August 19. U.S. ​gold futures fell 0.9% to $4,443.10 US dollars. (0823 GMT)
  • Looking at the crypto market, Bitcoin reached a capitalisation of $2.73 trillion US dollars, with an overall surge of 1.7% in the last 24 hours, while total trading volume was recorded at $80.2 billion dollars. Bitcoin’s dominance in the industry remains strong at 57.8%, while Ethereum holds 10.9%. The largest gainers in the industry over the past day were Tokenized Assets and the Real World Assets.

     

  • Moving on now to other business-related news,
    • The “China-ASEAN Entrepreneurs Summit 2026” highlighted the importance of strengthening investment cooperation and promoting practical business opportunities between China, ASEAN Member States, and Cambodia. The summit was held in Phnom Penh on September 1, bringing together entrepreneurs, investors, and business representatives to explore new opportunities for cooperation amid changes in the global economic and investment landscape. Speaking at the opening ceremony, H.E. Chea Vuthy, Secretary-General of the Cambodia Investment Board at the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), called on businesses and investors to continue exploring investment opportunities in Cambodia and to consider the Kingdom as a base for expanding production and business operations to regional and global markets. He underlined the importance of closer connectivity between foreign investors and local enterprises, saying that foreign investment should contribute not only to the creation of factories and jobs, but also to the transfer of knowledge and technology and the development of human resources in Cambodia.
    • A high-level delegation of investors and business leaders representing 25 Chinese institutions met with senior Cambodian officials to explore strategic and large-scale investment opportunities across key sectors of Cambodia’s economy on August 31. The delegation, led by the Vice President and Secretary-General of the Beijing-headquartered China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy, paid a courtesy visit and held a discussion meeting with H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), at the CDC headquarters in Phnom Penh. Coordinated by the Cambodia National Trade and Investment Promotion Association, the mission aimed to provide Chinese enterprises with firsthand insights into Cambodia’s regulatory framework, investment incentives and high-potential sectors. During the meeting, H.E. Sun Chanthol highlighted Cambodia’s competitive advantages, including sustained macroeconomic stability, favourable investment legislation and attractive incentives, a young and dynamic workforce, and strategic regional connectivity.
    • The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MLVT) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) jointly organised the "National Workshop on Decent Work in the Platform Economy in Cambodia" on August 31 in Phnom Penh. The event was co-chaired by Her Excellency Sovann Vannaroth, Permanent Secretary of State at the MLVT, and Xiaoyan Qian, Director of the ILO Country Office for Thailand, Cambodia, and Lao PDR. The workshop aimed to enhance understanding of the opportunities and challenges within Cambodia's platform economy, examine working conditions and social security coverage for platform workers, and gain insight into recent international labour standards, existing legal frameworks, and policies in Cambodia, as well as experiences from regional countries, to serve as input for setting future priorities and policy discussions.
