Cambodia and China further solidified their economic partnership on January 12, 2026, with the official inauguration of a major tire manufacturing facility in the Svay Rieng province, marking a significant step in the Kingdom’s industrial diversification.

The Wanli Tire (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. plant, located within the Xin Bavet Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Chantrea district, was formally opened in a ceremony presided over by H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC).

The project is viewed by officials as a cornerstone of the "Diamond Hexagon" cooperation framework between Cambodia and China. It highlights Cambodia’s growing appeal as a regional hub for heavy industry and automotive component manufacturing.

The establishment of the Wanli Tire facility is expected to significantly boost Cambodia’s export capacity. Beyond the immediate economic output, the plant introduces advanced production technologies to the local workforce, aligning with the Royal Government’s goal to transition from labour-intensive industries to high-skill manufacturing.

"This investment is a clear testament to the enduring 'ironclad' friendship between Cambodia and China," H.E. Sun Chanthol stated during the event.

He noted that the project not only enhances the "Made in Cambodia" brand on the global stage but also contributes to the country's integration into global value chains.

Government officials emphasised that the decision by Wanli Tire to invest in the region reflects high investor confidence in Cambodia’s political stability and economic trajectory under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet.

The administration has aggressively pursued Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) through a series of pro-business reforms and the expansion of SEZs, which offer tax incentives and streamlined administrative procedures for international firms.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister and a delegation of provincial officials toured the production lines. The facility utilises automated systems to meet international safety and quality standards, targeting markets in both the region and the West.

The launch was attended by senior provincial leaders, representatives from the CDC, and executives from Wanli Tire, signaling broad institutional support for the venture.
