Sokimex Announces Suspension of LPG Supply From April 1, Minister of Energy Urges Calm
Sokimex, a leading petroleum and liquefied petroleum gas importing company in Cambodia, has announced the temporary suspension of LPG supply starting from April 1, 2026, citing an inability to import LPG since March due to ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
“Due to the ongoing war and prolonged instability in the Middle East, global transportation of petroleum and LPG has been severely disrupted. Cambodia, like many other countries, has also been affected by this situation,” the announcement from Sokimex reads.
The statement adds:
Under these difficult circumstances, Sokimex Company has been unable to import LPG since the beginning of March 2026 and therefore cannot continue supplying LPG to customers according to market demand. Accordingly, Sokimex Company hereby informs that it will temporarily suspend the supply of LPG effective from April 1, 2026, until further notice.
Following the release of this announcement from Sokimex, the Minister of Mines and Energy, H.E. Keo Rottanak, posted a video on social media reassuring the public that the Cambodian government is working to ensure a stable supply of LPG and other fuels in the country.
The Minister acknowledged that LPG is currently the most constrained fuel, but stressed that the governemnt is coordinating with companies and regional partners to secure sufficient supply for transport, cooking, and industrial use.
He also noted that Sokimex accounts for only about 3 per cent of Cambodia’s total LPG supply, and stressed that there are seven companies importing LPG in the country that will continue to supply the market throughout March and April.
H.E. Keo Rottanak called on the public to remain calm and avoid panic, while encouraging more efficient use of LPG. He further urged citizens to consider switching to electric cooking appliances, noting the government’s commitment to ensuring reliable electricity supply and stable pricing.
