SchneiTec Group, a renewable energy developer, announced the launch of the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project on March 13, 2026, marking a significant achievement in Cambodia's energy sector.

With a total storage capacity of 1,000 megawatt hours, the launch marks the first and largest project of its kind in the Kingdom.

“This is not just a clean energy storage project, but also a crucial step toward strengthening national energy stability,” SchneiTec said in a statement released on the company's Facebook page.

“By integrating this large-scale BESS into the national grid, we have enhanced the reliability of electricity supply by reducing the risks of outages and disruptions, while ensuring stable power for households and industries,” the statement added.

Beyond that, the project paves the way for more renewable energy development by storing excess electricity generated from solar and wind during the day, making it available at night and reducing dependence on traditional fossil fuels.

The BESS project helps to position Cambodia as one of the leading ASEAN countries implementing such advanced grid-forming technology.

“As Cambodia moves toward its target of 70 per cent clean energy by 2030, this infrastructure project serves as a backbone to support the government’s vision of transitioning to green energy,” the statement concluded.
