Cambodia exported 940,321 tonnes of milled rice in 2025, marking a 45 per cent year-on-year increase, according to a report released by the Cambodia Rice Federation on January 5.

The exports generated USD 602 million in revenue, up 22.6 per cent from USD 491 million recorded in the previous year. Cambodian rice was shipped to 75 international destinations by 68 exporting companies.

The report noted that the main markets for Cambodia’s milled rice were the European Union, China, and ASEAN member countries. Exports to the European Union reached 339,417 tonnes, accounting for about 36 per cent of total exports and generating USD 258 million in revenue.

China imported 231,125 tonnes of Cambodian milled rice, valued at USD 138 million, while 273,657 tonnes were exported to ASEAN countries, earning USD 117 million.

Other destinations—including countries in Africa, the Middle East, the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand—imported a combined 96,122 tonnes of milled rice, generating USD 88 million in revenue.

Exported varieties included fragrant rice, long-grain white rice, parboiled rice, and organic rice, with fragrant rice accounting for 64 per cent of total export volume.

Cambodia’s Malys Angkor rice (Phka Rumduol variety) won the World’s Best Rice 2025 award at the International World Rice Conference held in Phnom Penh in November, marking the seventh time the variety has received this international honour. The achievement has further enhanced global recognition of Cambodian rice quality and value.

Cambodia’s continued success on the international stage has strengthened the country’s rice brand in global markets and boosted confidence among international buyers.

In addition, Cambodia earned approximately USD 1.579 billion from border trade, exporting 6.85 million tonnes of paddy rice during the same period, representing a 32 per cent year-on-year increase.
