Cambodia has officially launched its first modern agricultural community dedicated to Pailin longan production, backed by a single-day export contract worth more than USD 5 million.

The launch was announced by H.E. Khim Finan, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, via his Facebook page on January 15, 2026.

The contract was signed with a longan exporting company, marking a significant step in the commercial development of the premium fruit crop.

H.E. Khim Finan shared that the Pailin Longan Modern Agricultural Community consists of 86 families farming on 600 hectares of land. Under the signed contract, the community is expected to generate about 6,000 tonnes of Pailin longan for export per year.

The USD 5 million single-day export contract helps to affirm that Cambodian longan has achieved the premium standing needed for global markets. As a result, Cambodia's longan production is no longer restricted to a small domestic market, and can tap into the large spending power of the East Asian middle class.

To date, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries has facilitated the creation of 30 modern farming communities across various sectors. This includes 10 modern farming communities dedicated to vegetable production, as part of a national strategy to boost domestic supply and reduce dependency on imported produce.
