2026 Global Business Summit Expands Trade Prospects Between Cambodia and Hong Kong
The outlook for Cambodia-Hong Kong trade through 2026 has been further bolstered following the Global Business Summit, which aimed to facilitate the exchange of perspectives on the global economy and new market prospects.
The event underscored Hong Kong’s role as a primary entry point for Chinese companies seeking international expansion, while establishing a framework for future private-sector delegations and international business matching.
According to a Ministry of Commerce statement released on January 27, 2026, H.E. Lim Lork Piseth, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, delivered a keynote address at the summit. Held under the theme "Chinese Enterprises Going Global", the event was presided over by H.E. Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
The summit served as a platform for sharing insights on the global economy and emerging market opportunities, highlighting Hong Kong’s strategic position as a gateway for Chinese businesses expanding internationally.
In his address, the Secretary of State highlighted the robust relationship between Cambodia and China, Cambodia’s competitive advantages, and its progress in market diversification. He also emphasised the opportunities arising from the Kingdom’s resilient and sustainable trade and investment policies.
Following the summit, H.E. Lim Lork Piseth held a bilateral meeting with Hong Kong’s Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Algernon Yau, to discuss expanding trade ties. The discussions focused on leveraging Hong Kong’s "Super Connector" status and its proximity to the Greater Bay Area to unlock new investment opportunities in Cambodia.
Furthermore, the Secretary of State held a productive meeting with Professor Frederick S. Ma, the newly appointed Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). This meeting focused on creating a future cooperation framework to mobilise private sector delegations for major international events and high-level business-matching programmes.
