  • We start with a quick look at regional markets. Asian share markets were mostly firmer on Monday, as Wall Street futures started the week with gains on hopes for an upbeat earnings season, while easing oil prices promised relief from inflationary pressures.
  • South Korea’s KOSPI index added 2.25%, while Japan’s Nikkei eased 0.1%.
  • MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan gained 0.4%.
  • Zooming in on Cambodia’s market—the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index was down 1.73 points or 0.38% to 453.57. Total trade volume was up with 107,876 shares changing hands at a total value of 496.1 million riel or close to $124,000 US dollars.
  • On the main board, all stocks were down, with Pestech Cambodia as the biggest loser of the day.
  • Over on the growth board, Picasso City Garden was up, while JS Land and DBD Engineering remained flat.
  • Shifting to the exchange rate, the Khmer riel to USD weakened slightly to 4,034 riel per US Dollar, while the US Dollar index hovered around 101.09.
  • Looking at global commodities, oil prices fell by more than 1% ‌on Monday after OPEC+ agreed to further increase its output targets from August while exports from key producers via the Strait of Hormuz are recovering, potentially adding to global supplies.
  • Brent crude futures fell 1.41% to $71.10 US dollars a barrel after settling 0.45% ​higher on Friday.
  • U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was at $67.89 a barrel, down 1.16%. (0756 GMT)
  • Gold pulled back from a two-week high, as ‌the dollar edged up from recent lows, though easing bets on U.S. interest rate hikes limited bullion's losses.
  • Spot gold was down 0.2% at $4,165.21 US dollars per ounce, after hitting its highest ​since June 22 earlier in the day.
  • U.S. gold futures for August delivery ​climbed 1.3% to $4,177.20 US dollars per ounce. (0750 GMT)
  • Looking at the crypto market, Bitcoin is holding steady, trading right around $63,207 US dollars, but keeping hold of a solid 5.5% gain over the last seven days. Meanwhile, Ether is the week's standout among the top two, surging over 12% to land around $1,777 US dollars.

     

  • Moving on now to other business-related news,
    • The Ministry of Commerce announced on July 5, that H.E. Lim Lork Piseth, Secretary of State, received a courtesy call from a delegation from China’s Hainan Province on July 3, during which the two sides discussed the expansion of bilateral trade, export promotion agreements, and strategic cooperation plans between Cambodia and Hainan. The Cambodian Secretary of State also spoke of the trade opportunities regarding Cambodian products, global supply chains through strong Cambodia-China cooperation, and the potential of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
    • H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister, First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) and Chairman of the National Logistics Council, chaired a discussion with the European Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia on July 6 to explore ways to strengthen Cambodia’s transport and logistics sector and improve the efficiency of import-export cargo movement. The meeting brought together representatives from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS), the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE), Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway, Royal Railway PLC, EuroCham, and other stakeholders. Participants exchanged views on EuroCham’s logistics assessments and discussed measures to improve transport infrastructure, maximise the use of existing logistics networks, and enhance supply chain efficiency.
    • THE French Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Attractiveness, Nicolas Forissier, will pay an official visit to Cambodia from July 9–10 to deepen economic ties between France and Cambodia and encourage greater French investment in the Kingdom. According to a press release issued on July 6 by the Embassy of France in Cambodia, the visit follows a series of high-level meetings aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. The visit also comes ahead of French President Emmanuel Macron’s planned visit to Cambodia in November 2026 for the Francophonie Summit.
