  • We start with a quick look at regional markets. Asian stocks traded mixed on Tuesday as early momentum from an overnight Wall Street rally was tempered by profit-taking and lingering currency market volatility.
  • Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 gained 0.3%. South Korea's Kospi gained 1.6%.
  • Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 0.6%, while the Shanghai Composite gained 0.3%.
  • Zooming in on Cambodia’s market—the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index was up 1.47 points or 0.32% to 461.18. Total trade volume was up with 237,731 shares changing hands at a total value of 1.2 billion riel or nearly $305,000 US dollars.
  • On the main board, three stocks were up, led by Royal Group Phnom Penh SEZ, while three stocks were down, with Pestech Cambodia as the biggest loser of the day. Over on the growth board, all stocks were down.
  • Shifting to the exchange rate, the Khmer riel to USD weakened slightly to 4,051 riel per US Dollar, while the US Dollar index hovered around 101.03.
  • Looking at global commodities, oil prices rose on Tuesday as a diplomatic ‌resolution to the U.S.-Iran conflict remained uncertain, while disruptions to oil flows through key shipping routes persisted. Front-month Brent futures rose 1.24% to $84.81 US dollars, after dropping 7% in the previous session to a three-week low.
  • U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was ​up 0.37% at $80.64 US dollars a barrel after falling more than 5% in the previous session ​to its lowest in nearly a week. (0800 GMT)
  • Gold prices were steady as investors ‌grappled with uncertainty over the U.S. Federal Reserve's interest-rate path and monitored ongoing developments in the Middle East for signs of a diplomatic resolution to the Iran war.
  • Spot gold was little changed at $4,052.86 US dollars per ​ounce, while U.S. gold futures were up 0.5% at $4,111.70 US dollars. (0905 GMT)
  • Looking at the crypto market, Bitcoin was wedged in a tight $63,100–$64,000 dollar range, with the last close at $63,564 US dollars—just inches from both support and resistance and Ether trades around $1,855 US dollars.

     

  • Moving on now to other business-related news,
    • The Trust Regulator of Cambodia held Trust Forum 2026 on August 4 at the Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel, centred on the theme “Trust in the Dynamics of Stakeholder System and Achievements over the Past Five Years”. H.E. Sok Dara, Director General of the Trust Regulator, said that this Forum aimed to bring together experts and key stakeholders in the trust sector to network, gain fresh perspectives, and exchange knowledge and practical experience, focusing primarily on presentations and discussions regarding development projects for major economic pole provinces and trust mechanisms within the policy framework to attract investment to Cambodia. Other topics discussed included the establishment of family trusts in Cambodia, risk management and investor protection, as well as the adoption and utilisation of financial technology within the sector.
    • The Royal Government of Cambodia is stepping up strategic efforts to push the country’s industrial transformation from a labour-intensive manufacturing model towards production based on skills and advanced technology. The remark was made by H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), during an August 4 meeting with executives from automotive wiring harness companies. The meeting brought together senior CDC officials, representatives of relevant ministries and state institutions, and executives from automotive wiring harness companies operating in the country. H.E. Sun Chanthol reaffirmed the Cambodian government’s commitment to supporting and facilitating stakeholders to ensure continued progress in automotive wire harness manufacturing and to create a more favourable environment for further investment.
    • Cambodia and Malaysia have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen and expand bilateral cooperation in economic and tourism sectors, along with other key areas of mutual interest. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation shared the commitment in a news release issued after the 3rd Meeting of the Cambodia-Malaysia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC), held on August 4 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, under the co-chairmanship of Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and the Malaysian Foreign Minister. The Cambodian Ministry said both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing cooperation in priority areas, including trade and investment, agriculture, education, security, national defence, employment, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
