- We start with a quick look at regional markets. Asian stocks climbed to a record as investors doubled down on the artificial-intelligence trade that has powered global equities to all-time highs. T
- he MSCI Asia Pacific Index rose 0.8% to an all-time high, as technology shares rallied. Taiwan’s benchmark gauge advanced 1.7% to a record.
- Japan’s Nikkei 225 surged 2.17%, also to a record high.
- Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index advanced 2.5%.
- South Korean markets were shut for a holiday.
- Zooming in on Cambodia’s market—the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index was up 0.86 points or 0.2% to 433.84.
- Total trade volume was down with 125,264 shares changing hands at a total value of 710.7 million riel or over $177,000 US dollars.
- On the main board, four stocks were up, led by Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority, while four stocks were down, with Royal Group Phnom Penh SEZ as the biggest loser of the day.
- Over on the growth board, all three stocks were down.
- Shifting to the exchange rate, the Khmer riel to USD remained stable at 4,026 riel per US Dollar, while the US Dollar index hovered around 99.32.
- Moving on to global commodities, oil prices rose over 1% on Wednesday, extending gains from the previous session, as hostilities in the Middle East erupted anew and talks between Tehran and Washington showed little progress.
- Brent futures gained 1.6% to $97.56 US dollars a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude climbed 1.7% to $95.37 US dollars. (0640 GMT)
- Gold prices slipped on Wednesday, as renewed hostilities in the Middle East pushed crude higher and stalled U.S.-Iran talks, while investors awaited upcoming U.S. economic data.
- Spot gold fell 0.5% to $4,460.36 US dollars per ounce, after rising more than 1% in the previous session.
- U.S. gold futures for August delivery slipped 0.7% to $4,488.90 US dollars. (0702 GMT)
- Looking at the crypto market, Bitcoin is trading below the $70,000 dollar mark, facing a sharp price drop and testing critical support levels. The cryptocurrency has been struggling to find near-term catalysts, trading around 40-50% below its previous peaks as major capital rotates into artificial intelligence and high-performance computing equities.
- Moving on now to other business-related news:
- On June 3, following the successful implementation of the Phnom Knang Phsar Green Recreation Project, Prime Minister Hun Manet announced that the Cambodian government is studying plans to support another eco-tourism community in Kampong Speu province. Approximately 10 hectares of land is being studied and preserved as a green and nature tourism site before being handed over to the local community for management, following the successful model of the Knang Phsar Tourist Resort. The Prime Minister stressed that the government will help train community members so they know how to operate, manage, and sustainably benefit from the natural site.
- H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), received a courtesy call and held a working discussion with a high-level delegation from the Federal Republic of Germany on June 3. The visiting German parliamentary delegation thanked the Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister for providing them with deeper insights into Cambodia’s open-door investment policies, and commended Cambodia's rapid development across all sectors. Both sides expressed a shared commitment to maintaining and further elevating relations. They pledged to coordinate and collaborate closely to catalyse a new wave of German investment into Cambodia in the near future, aiming to deliver reciprocal socio-economic benefits for the nations and peoples of both countries.
- Cambodia’s Private Sector Development Working Group has begun reviewing potential measures to strengthen the domestic cement industry amid evolving economic conditions and growing regulatory requirements for manufacturers, according to a statement released on June 3. Discussions took place on June 2 at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, bringing together representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Mines and Energy, the General Department of Taxation, the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia, the General Department of Policy, and the General Department of State Property and Non-Tax Revenue. The review comes as Cambodia seeks to balance industrial growth with environmental and social responsibilities while strengthening the resilience of strategic domestic industries....
