  • We start with a quick look at regional markets. Stocks tumbled on Monday as rising oil prices and doubts about a potential US-Iran truce unnerved markets. The uncertainty continues to weigh on bonds as investors prepare for a week filled with major economic announcements. 
  • Japan's Nikkei went flat, while the volatile ​South Korean stock market slid 2.0%. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan eased 0.6%.
  • Zooming in on Cambodia’s market—the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index was up 2.71 points or 0.46% to 596.33. Total trade volume was down with 1,286,106 shares changing hands at a total value of 6.63 billion riel or over $1.63 million US dollars.
  • On the main board, seven stocks were up, led by Royal Group Phnom Penh SEZ, while two stocks were down, with Pestech Cambodia as the biggest loser of the day. 
  • Over on the growth board, DBD Engineering and JS Land were up, while Picasso City Garden stayed flat. 
  • Shifting to the exchange rate, the Khmer riel to USD remained stable at 4,057 riel per US Dollar, while the US Dollar index hovered around 100.08.
  • Looking at global commodities, Brent crude oil rebounded more ‌than 3% on Monday after US President Donald Trump rejected a peace deal from Iran to resolve their conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, keeping tensions in the Middle East elevated. 
  • Brent crude futures rose 3.29%, to $107.75 US dollars a barrel, ​while US West Texas Intermediate crude was at $94.55 US dollars a barrel, up 2.32%. (0540 GMT)
  • Gold prices fell more than 2% on ​Monday as a rise in oil prices heightened inflation concerns and reinforced ‌expectations of further U.S. Federal Reserve interest-rate hikes. 
  • Spot gold was down 2.7% at $4,171.85 US dollars per ounce, hitting its lowest since early August. US gold futures fell 2.7% to $4,204.30 US dollars. (0627 GMT)
  • Looking at the crypto market, Bitcoin fell on Monday, extending losses from over the weekend as surging Treasury yields and few signs of progress towards a U.S.-Iran peace deal dented appetite for risk-driven markets. The world’s largest crypto fell 1.7% to $83,061.4 US dollars. Bitcoin clocked two straight weeks of gains on some optimism over favourable U.S. regulations. Broader crypto prices also fell on Monday after two weeks of gains

     

  • Moving on now to other business-related news,
    • Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Cuba have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on tourism cooperation to strengthen and expand bilateral collaboration in the tourism sector. H.E. Huot Hak, Cambodian Minister of Tourism, signed the MoU with the Cuban Ministry of Tourism, represented by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Kingdom of Cambodia, in Siem Reap on September 27. According to the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism, the MoU marks an important milestone in establishing a framework for cooperation between the tourism authorities of the two countries. It aims to promote tourism development, facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience, and diversify Cambodia’s tourism markets into Latin America, based on the principles of equality and mutual benefit.
    • The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI) and Informa Markets opened FoodTec Cambodia 2026 and PackTalk Cambodia 2026 on September 28, bringing manufacturers, technology providers and packaging specialists together to advance food processing, product quality and market access. Held at the Koh Pich Island Convention and Exhibition Centre from September 28 to 30, the two events connect policy and industry discussions with practical technologies and services. PackTalk Cambodia is organised under the theme “Packaging: The Last Mile to the Market.” PackTalk Cambodia complements the exhibition through discussions on product protection, packaging design, food safety, standards, labelling, sustainability and consumer trust. FoodTec Cambodia is the country’s first dedicated exhibition for food-processing and packaging technology, featuring more than 100 exhibitors presenting machinery, packaging solutions and agricultural technologies. The organisers expect the event to attract more than 5,000 industry representatives, businesses, researchers and other participants.
    • Cambodian Minister of Tourism, H.E. Huot Hak, presided over a gala dinner held at Bayon Temple in Siem Reap province on September 27, as part of GX Summit 2026 organised by international tourism company, G Adventures. The event was attended by government officials, G Adventures leadership and members, GX Summit 2026 delegates, and national and international guests from across the world, totalling more than 600 participants. During the event, Cambodia showcased its tourism potential and investment opportunities, as well as its safety, socioeconomic development, rich cultural and traditional heritage, and thousands of temples and monuments, including those recognised as World Heritage sites. Cambodia also highlighted the friendliness of its people, warm hospitality, distinctive cuisine and attractive tourism destinations to international delegates, with the aim of establishing long-term tourism cooperation with G Adventures.
