  • We start with a quick look at regional markets. During the Asian trading session, Japanese and South Korean stock markets closed lower across the board. 
  • The Nikkei 225 Index fell 0.47%. 
  • The KOSPI Index dropped 0.53%. 
  • Hong Kong’s Hang Seng dropped 1.27% while the Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.12%.
     
  • Zooming in on Cambodia’s market—the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index was down 0.26 points or 0.06% to 431.5. 
  • Total trade volume was down with 136,887 shares changing hands at a total value of 772.2 million riel or over $191,000 US dollars.
  • On the main board, only one stock, Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, was up, while four stocks were down, with Pestech Cambodia as the biggest loser of the day. 
  • Over on the growth board,  JS Land and Picasso City Garden were down, while DBD Engineering stayed flat.
     
  • Shifting to the exchange rate, the Khmer riel to USD strengthened slightly to 4,027 riel per US Dollar, while the US Dollar index hovered around 99.34.
     
  • Oil ‌prices jumped more than 2% on Thursday after Iran's Revolutionary Guards said they had targeted a U.S. airbase in response to an earlier U.S. attack in the port city of Bandar Abbas.
  • Brent crude futures was up ​2.52% to $96.67 US dollars a barrel, while the more active August contract ​gained 2.66% to $94.70 US dollars. 
  • U.S. ⁠West Texas Intermediate futures were up 2.53% at $90.92 US dollars. (0845 GMT)
  • Gold prices fell to a two-month low on Thursday as fresh ‌U.S. attacks on Iran boosted the dollar and pushed oil prices higher, stoking concerns about rising inflation and clouding the interest rate outlook. 
  • Spot gold was down 1.5% at $4,388.76 US dollars per ounce, ​earlier falling to its lowest level since March 26. 
  • U.S. gold futures for ​June delivery fell 1.4% to $4,386 US dollars. (0740 GMT)
     
  • Looking at the crypto market, Bitcoin momentarily crashed to $72,728 US dollars, its lowest level since mid-April. Amid renewed escalation between the US and Iran, the leading cryptocurrency crashed, and the entire crypto market turned red.
     
  • Moving on now to other business-related news:
    • The Techo Startup Center released a research report titled "Revenue Generation from the Creator Economy in Cambodia within the Creative Economy Ecosystem" on May 28. Developed by the Business Development Center (BDC) under the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the study outlines four primary objectives: raising awareness about the potential of content creation, supporting creative entrepreneurs to foster robust business growth, enhancing multi-stakeholder collaboration to promote national cultural values, and gathering crucial data to shape future policy frameworks. This document serves as a vital resource and strategic roadmap for ecosystem partners looking to capitalize on the latest trends and emerging opportunities within Cambodia's rapidly evolving creative economy.
    • A delegation representing five South Korean companies is scheduled to visit Cambodia next month to explore potential investment opportunities. The upcoming trade mission was highlighted during a meeting at the Royal Cambodian Embassy in Seoul on May 26, between the Cambodian Ambassador to South Korea, Lee Moon-cheol, and badminton coach Song Young-ho. The talks outlined progress in rallying South Korean investors to examine Cambodia's economic potential, announcing plans to lead an initial group of five companies to the Southeast Asian nation in June 2026. 
    • On May 27, H.E. Sou Socheat, Director General of the Securities and Exchange Regulator of Cambodia (SERC), led a delegation to attend an inter-institutional meeting to discuss and review the proposal by ACLEDA Bank Plc. on a new type of bond. This meeting was attended by representatives from the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), the Accounting and Auditing Regulator (ACAR), ACLEDA Bank Plc., and RHB Securities (Cambodia) Plc. According to the SERC, the meeting proceeded smoothly and concluded with highly fruitful results.
