- We start with a quick look at regional markets. Asian shares rose on Monday because oil prices dropped more than 5%. This price drop helped calm fears about inflation, high interest rates, and tension in the Gulf before the U.S. Federal Reserve meeting.
- The Kospi rose 0.97%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 added 0.5%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 0.98%, while mainland China’s CSI 300 rose 1.15%.`
- Zooming in on Cambodia’s market—the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index was up 0.86 points or 0.19% to 452.84. Total trade volume was up with 636,199 shares changing hands at a total value of 1.7 billion riel or over $432,000 US dollars.
- On the main board, only one stock, Royal Group Phnom Penh SEZ, was up, while six stocks were down with Grand Twins International as the biggest loser of the day.
- Over on the growth board, JS Land and Picasso City Garden were down, while DBD Engineering stayed flat.
- Shifting to the exchange rate, the Khmer riel to USD remained stable at 4,041 riel per US Dollar, while the US Dollar index hovered around 101.28.
- Looking at global commodities, oil prices tumbled more than 5% on Monday after the U.S. and Iran paused strikes over the weekend following two weeks of attacks, raising hopes of a diplomatic solution that would de-escalate the conflict and allow shipping to resume in the Strait of Hormuz. Brent crude futures fell 5.9% to $91.08 US dollars a barrel after briefly slipping under the key support level of $90 dollars earlier in the session.
- U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was at $84.51 a barrel, down 5.4%. (0804 GMT)
- Gold prices climbed on Monday as a pause in strikes between U.S. and Iranian forces dragged crude oil prices lower, helping ease inflation concerns and worries about the risk of higher interest rates in a week where policymakers at the Fed are due to meet.
- Spot gold gained 0.9% to $4,089.03 US dollars per ounce, while U.S gold futures for August delivery rose 0.5% to $4,090.80 US dollars. (0805 GMT)
Looking at the crypto market, Bitcoin was trading modestly higher near $65,000 US dollars, supported by steady ETF inflows and softer Treasury yields ahead of Wednesday’s Fed decision, though gains remain capped below key resistance at $66,000 US dollars.
- Moving on now to other business-related news,
- The Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) and the Embassy of India in Cambodia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 27 to implement a Quick Impact Project for mine clearance in Pursat province. The Senior Minister and First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority highlighted the long-standing friendship between Cambodia and India, noting that bilateral ties have continued to be strengthened through practical cooperation, including humanitarian mine action. He said the partnership has helped transform hazardous, mine-contaminated land into safe and productive areas for local communities.
- The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) has forecast that Cambodia’s economy will grow by 3.9 percent in 2026, reflecting the country’s resilience despite ongoing global uncertainties and domestic challenges. According to the NBC, Cambodia’s economy expanded by an estimated 3.5 percent in the first half of 2026, weighed down by global economic headwinds and several domestic factors. However, the central bank expects economic growth to accelerate to 4.3 percent in the second half of the year, driven by stronger exports of garments, non-garment manufactured goods, and agricultural products, as well as continued inflows of foreign direct investment.
- Cambodian fresh durian exports to China reached 5,738 tonnes in the first seven months of 2026, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF). The Ministry announced the figures on July 26 following the departure of the latest shipment of Cambodian fresh durians to the Chinese market. H.E. Khim Finan, Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson of the MAFF, presided over the inauguration ceremony for the first shipment of fresh durian from Pechenda Fruit Production Co., Ltd. via a newly established land transport route through Laos. MAFF said the shipment comprised three containers carrying more than 50 tonnes of fresh durian destined for China.
