- We start with a quick look at regional markets. Asian stocks made slight gains on Thursday thanks to upbeat earnings from Nvidia, though concerns over AI-driven disruption and rising costs remained.
- Japan's Nikkei was up 0.15%, while South Korea's KOSPI jumped 3%. M
- SCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rose 0.65%.
- Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index was down 0.76% while China's CSI300 blue-chip index eased 0.2%.
- Zooming in on Cambodia’s market—the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index was down 0.27 points or 0.06%, to 425.56.
- Total trade volume was up with 112,308 shares changing hands at a total value of 704.8 million riel, or close to $177,000 US dollars.
- On the main board, two stocks were up, led by Grand Twins International, while three stocks were down, with Sihanoukville Autonomous Port as the biggest loser of the day.
- Over on the growth board, DBD Engineering and JS Land were down, while Picasso City Garden was up.
- Shifting to the exchange rate, the KHR strengthened to 4,011 riel per US Dollar, while the US Dollar Index hovered around 97.72.
- Turning to global commodities, oil prices inched up on Thursday as investors assessed whether U.S.-Iran talks could avert a military conflict that risks supply disruptions, though gains were capped by a build in U.S. crude inventories.
- Brent futures were trading at $71.02 US dollars per barrel, up 0.24%.
- West Taxes Intermediate futures rose 0.2% to $65.54 US dollars per barrel. (0847 GMT)
- Gold prices edged up on Thursday as uncertainty over U.S. tariff policy boosted the metal's safe-haven appeal, while investors awaited further details on U.S.-Iran talks later in the day.
- Spot gold was up 0.2% at $5,182.18 US dollars per ounce. Bullion had hit a more-than-three-week high on Tuesday.
- U.S. gold futures for April delivery were down 0.5% at $5,198.70 US dollars. (0942 GMT)
- Looking at the crypto market, Bitcoin briefly approached $70,000 US dollars before retreating to about $68,300 US dollars, underscoring a failed attempt to reclaim a key resistance level.
- Moving on now to other business-related news:
- H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, officially launched the $9-million dollar SCALE+ project, titled “Building Climate Resilience of Communities in Cambodia’s Protected Landscapes through Biodiversity-Friendly Crop–Livestock Systems” on February 25. The project is implemented by the Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), with technical support from the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and financial support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
- H.E. Chhay Rithisen, Minister of Rural Development, met with Nianshan Zhang, Director General for the Southeast Asia Department at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), on February 26, to discuss expanding cooperation on infrastructure and services. During the meeting, the Minister of Rural Development shared his ministry’s vision to build a prosperous and inclusive rural society in Cambodia, in alignment with the government’s National Rural Development Policy.
- The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MoLVT) and Jiangsu Huibo Robotics Technology Co., Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on February 25 to formalise a strategic partnership in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The MoU was signed between the Cambodian Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, and the Senior Vice President of Jiangsu Huibo Robotics Technology.
