- We start with a quick look at regional markets. Asian stocks made lumpy gains on Wednesday as the boost from a strong Wall Street session was capped by caution ahead of earnings reports from Big Tech.
- MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.2% as South Korea's Kospi trimmed gains to 1.5%, well off an earlier advance of more than 6%.Japan's Nikkei 225 flitted between gains and losses, while stocks in Hong Kong slipped 1.2%.
- Zooming in on Cambodia’s market—the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index was up 0.18 points or 0.04% to 453.
- Total trade volume was down with 245,771 shares changing hands at a total value of 1.08 billion riel or over $268,000 US dollars.
- On the main board, five stocks were up, led by Grand Twins International, while four stocks were down with Sihanoukville Autonomous Port as the biggest loser of the day.
- Over on the growth board, DBD Engineering and Picasso City Garden were up while JS Land stayed flat.
- Shifting to the exchange rate, the Khmer riel to USD weakened to 4,040 riel per US Dollar, while the US Dollar index hovered around 101.13.
- Looking at global commodities, oil prices extended gains to trade near six-week highs on Wednesday as fears of further supply disruptions intensified after U.S. forces struck Iranian military targets for the 11th straight night, while oil tankers made U-turns in the Red Sea after warnings by Iran-backed Houthi militia.
- Brent crude futures rose 2.0% to $92.85 US dollars a barrel, the highest since June 11. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude climbed 2% to $86.01 US dollars, its highest since June 12. (0630 GMT)
- Gold rose to a two-week high on technical buying as investors assessed the widening Middle East conflict and awaited the U.S. Federal Reserve meeting next week for clues on the interest rate outlook.
- Spot gold climbed 0.9% to $4,112.70 US dollars per ounce, having hit its highest level since July 7 earlier in the day. U.S. gold futures for August delivery jumped 1% to $4,116.90 US dollars. (0705 GMT)
Looking at the crypto market, Bitcoin traded near $65,900 US dollars on Wednesday, holding just below the two-week high it touched earlier, up 1.5% on the week.

- A group of American businessmen have reaffirmed their commitment to expand trade and investment cooperation with Cambodia, as a delegation from the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) met with Prime Minister Hun Manet on July 22 to explore new opportunities for American companies in the Kingdom. The delegation, led by USABC President, Brian McFeeters, and joined by U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Aleks Zittle, held discussions focused on strengthening bilateral economic ties, promoting investment, and creating a more conducive environment for U.S. businesses to expand their presence in Cambodia. During the meeting, the delegation underscored the value that American companies bring to the Cambodian market, highlighting their world-class products and services, trusted business practices, advanced technologies, and long-term commitment to investing in local workers and communities.
- Global innovation platform Plug and Play has invested in konektAgri, making it the second Cambodian startup to receive funding through the Innovate Cambodia Accelerator Programme, following Bamnang. The investment, announced on June 19, reflects the programme's success in helping Cambodian startups attract international investment while contributing to the growth of the Kingdom's digital startup ecosystem. According to the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, konektAgri has developed agriKredit™, an advanced credit assessment and risk management platform designed for the agricultural sector. The platform combines financial and agricultural data – including satellite imagery, weather information, farmland location data, and an electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) verification system – to help financial institutions make more accurate and efficient lending decisions.
- Cambodia has received a concessional loan of $110 million US dollars and a grant of $5 million dollars from the World Bank to support its sustainable energy transition projects. The news was shared during a July 22 workshop on Early Market Engagement and Participation Status for the Battery Energy Storage System, Transmission Line, and Substation Projects under the Cambodia Sustainable Energy Transition Project, funded by World Bank concessional financing. The project is implemented by the Ministry of Mines and Energy and Electricité du Cambodge (EDC). The scope of work under EDC includes the construction of transmission lines and electrical substations, a battery energy storage system, and distribution grid expansion and reinforcement including the preparation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, distribution grid setup, and Advanced Metering Infrastructure.
