- We start with a quick look at regional markets. Asian stock markets rallied across the board, led by a rebound in technology heavyweights following previous sessions' sharp declines.
- The Nikkei 225 was up 0.74%, while South Korea's KOSPI reversed early losses to bounce back 0.73%.
- Hang Seng Index rose 0.52%, and the Shanghai Composite Index closed up 1.36%.
- Zooming in on Cambodia’s market—the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index was down 0.1 points or 0.02% to 450.23.
- Total trade volume was up with 218,343 shares changing hands at a total value of 1.38 billion riel or close to $342,000 US dollars.
- On the main board, only one stock, Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, was up while three stocks were down, with Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority as the biggest loser of the day.
- Over on the growth board, all stocks were down.
- Shifting to the exchange rate, the Khmer riel to USD remained stable at 4,037 riel per US Dollar, while the US Dollar index hovered around 101.09.
- Looking at global commodities, oil prices rose on Tuesday to their highest in four weeks, as the U.S. reimposed a naval blockade of Iran and renewed attacks between Washington and Tehran heightened concerns over energy flows through the Strait of Hormuz.
- Brent crude futures were up 3.29% at $86.04 US dollars per barrel, while U.S.
- West Texas Intermediate crude rose 2.83% to $80.35 US dollars a barrel. (0751 GMT)
- Gold ticked higher after hitting a two-week low, while focus was on the U.S. Consumer Price Index data and U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's testimony for monetary policy clues.
- Spot gold rose 0.5% to $4,019.50 US dollars per ounce, after falling to its lowest level since July 1 earlier in the session.
- U.S. gold futures for August delivery. gained 0.5% to $4,026.20 US dollars. (0821 GMT)
- Looking at the crypto market, Bitcoin trades near $62,000 US dollars on Tuesday, after a 2% drop the previous day, keeping the near-term trend trapped below the 50-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) at $65,070 US dollars.
The reversal risks a retest of the $60,000 dollar psychological level, with the swing low near $58,115 US dollars in place
- Moving on now to other business-related news,
- Cambodia's securities market recorded robust growth during the first half of 2026, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) reporting record highs in active investors, trading activity and new account openings. According to a report from CSX, the monthly average number of active investors reached 4,902 in the first semester of 2026, an increase of 64.38 percent from 2,982 during the same period in 2025. The average daily trading value in the first semester rose to 854 million riel (approximately $213,500 US dollars), up 90.75 percent compared to the same period in 2025. The CSX attributed the stronger market performance to increased investor participation, the positive financial performance of listed companies and attractive dividend payouts during the 2026 dividend distribution season.
- Cambodia and the Association of Bulgarian-Arab Economic Chambers have agreed to strengthen and expand bilateral economic and trade cooperation, focusing on agricultural exports and investment opportunities. During a meeting with the Cambodian Ambassador to Bulgaria in the capital city, Sofia, on July 13, the Chairman of the Association expressed a strong interest in visiting Cambodia to explore its investment potential and economic opportunities firsthand. The Chairman plans to lead a business delegation to Cambodia to study the potential for importing Cambodian agricultural products, including rice, coffee, pepper, cashew nuts, tea, chili, and various processed goods. The Cambodian Ambassador to Bulgaria welcomed the initiative, pledging full support to facilitate the upcoming visit.
- Cambodia and Japan have officially finalised a 17.776 billion yen (approximately $119 million US dollar) loan agreement to launch the second phase of the Sihanoukville Port New Container Terminal Development Project. The Exchange of Notes was signed in Phnom Penh on July 13 by Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Prak Sokhonn, and Japanese Ambassador Ueno Atsushi. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the funding will directly support the construction of a new container terminal and vital supporting infrastructure at the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port—Cambodia's sole international deep-sea gateway.
