  • We start with a quick look at regional markets. Asian stocks found their footing after an initial selloff on Wednesday, helped by a turnaround in ​Korean shares as revived AI optimism dwarfed concerns about stalled talks between Washington and Tehran and hotter-than-expected U.S. inflation. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan ‌was up 0.3% after rebounding from an earlier decline of as much as 1%. 
  • Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 0.8%. 
  • Korean shares fell as much as 3.2% on news Samsung Electronics had failed to reach a pay deal with its union before rebounding 2.6%.
     
  • Zooming in on Cambodia’s market—the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index was up 1.34 points or 0.32% to 424.94. 
  • Total trade volume was down with 172,540 shares changing hands at a total value of 792.8 million riel or nearly $198,000 US dollars.
  • On the main board, three stocks were up, led by MJQ Education, while only one stock, Phnom Penh Autonomous Port, was down. 
  • Over on the growth board, all three stocks were up.
     
  • Shifting to the exchange rate, the Khmer riel to USD remained stable at 4,012 riel per US Dollar, while the US Dollar index hovered around 98.47.
     
  • Turning to global commodities, oil prices eased on Wednesday, snapping a three-day rally as investors awaited developments on the fragile ​Middle East ceasefire and braced for a high-stakes summit in Beijing between U.S. President Donald Trump and China's Xi Jinping.
  • Brent crude ‌futures dropped 0.2% to $107.58 US dollars a barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate futures fell 0.4% to $101.79 US dollars. (0909 GMT)
  • Gold prices extended losses on Wednesday as uncertainty over the Middle ‌East conflict and stronger-than-expected U.S. inflation data dimmed hopes for Federal Reserve rate cuts, with focus also on this week's summit between the U.S. and Chinese presidents. Spot gold fell 0.3% to $4,701.98 US dollars per ounce, retreating further from a three-week high in the last ​session. 
  • U.S. gold futures for June delivery gained 0.6% to $4,712.70 US dollars. (0752 GMT)
     
  • Looking at the crypto market, Bitcoin briefly dipped on a hotter-than-expected April inflation reading but quickly rebounded to about $81,000 US dollars, signaling aggressive dip-buying and resilience to macro jitters. 
     
  • Moving on now to other business-related news:
     
    • On May 12, the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce announced that the 19th International Food Exhibition (IFEX) Philippines and the Sustainability Solutions Exchange (SSX) will be held from May 21–23, 2026, at the World Trade Center in Manila, Philippines. This international event serves as a global platform for food and beverage companies to promote products and strengthen connections with international buyers. The exhibition will showcase a wide range of products—including bakery goods, beverages, fruits and vegetables, meat, poultry, seafood, plant-based products, snacks, and allied trade services—offering valuable opportunities for Cambodian enterprises to explore partnerships in the agri-food and agri-business sectors.
    • Cambodia’s rice exports to China recorded strong growth in the first four months of 2026, reflecting rising demand and the positive impact of bilateral trade agreements on the Kingdom’s agricultural sector. According to the Cambodia Rice Federation, the Kingdom exported 129,332 tonnes of rice to China between January and April this year, representing a sharp year-on-year increase of 83 percent. The exports generated a revenue of $75.88 million US dollars.
    • The Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC) renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Bank of Cambodia's SOSORO Museum on May 12. This partnership aims to further promote financial literacy and economic understanding among students and the youth of Cambodia. The MoU reaffirms the banking sector's deep commitment to strengthening financial education. It focuses on providing children and students with practical insights into the history of the Khmer Riel and the evolution of Cambodia’s economy. As part of this collaboration, students will participate in guided tours of the SOSORO Museum and conduct study visits to the Institute of Banking Studies (IBS) to gain a comprehensive understanding of the financial landscape.
