Wing Bank has recently been recognised by the Global Banking & Finance Review, winning "Best Digital Lending Brand – Cambodia 2026" and "Fastest-Growing Banking Brand – Cambodia 2026" awards for the second consecutive year.

B2B Asia News sat down with Tallal Ur Rehman, Chief Digital Banking Officer at Wing Bank, to discuss the significance of these accolades and the bank's strategy for continued growth and innovation.

B2B Cambodia: Being recognised by the Global Banking & Finance Review for a second year in a row is a great milestone for Wing Bank. Can you tell us what winning these awards mean for the bank, as well as for its customers and the broader banking industry overall?

Tallal Ur Rehman: “For Wing Bank, it's a testament to the fact that the journey that we've taken for ourselves is heading in the right direction, as far as the customers are concerned. Of course, it's the confidence, the trust, that they will have even more, that the institution that they're banking with is one which puts innovation, security, reliability and convenience at the top. But I think the most interesting, or the thing I'm most excited about, is the Cambodian angle.

The Cambodian digital financial services sector has come such a long way, and that a Cambodian bank operating in Cambodia has been able to win this global award two times in a row is what I am the most proud of.

B2B Cambodia: What do you think has been key to the bank's growth momentum from 2025 into 2026? What do you think has allowed the bank to so successfully expand nationwide?

Tallal Ur Rehman: “For us, our key concern is to resolve customer pain points. If you do that effectively, growth follows automatically. The digital innovation that we've been bringing so far, coupled with our physical agent and branch network, I think that those two work very well, especially in the Cambodian context. Secondly, it's our utmost dedication towards making the banking experience simple.”

B2B Cambodia: Wing Bank previously shared in a press release that it processed USD 55 million across 610 million transactions in 2025. How is the bank's digital infrastructure scaling to securely handle this massive volume without compromising user experience?

Tallal Ur Rehman: “A lot of effort has been put in to completely revamping the digital backend architecture so that the app can be scalable, secure and conveniently used at all times. Those are the things, of course, that generate the most amount of trust. For us, during every development sprint, every development pipeline, we focus on dedicating or allocating a certain amount of resources, always, to security features. I think that kind of mindset helps us to achieve what we have achieved so far. A lot of other fintechs or financial institutions — I've observed in my previous experience or in other geographies — are just very much focused on introducing new features, and they sometimes ignore the security part of it. So, I think it's a fine balance that you have to create.”

B2B Cambodia: I think part of the reason why Wing Bank is a leader in digital banking specifically is because it is a relatively newer commercial bank. With that said, recent reports from the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) already rank Wing Bank as one the top five largest commercial banks in the Kingdom. Does reaching this kind of achievement change Wing Bank's strategy when it competing with traditional legacy banks that have already been in the market for many years?

Tallal Ur Rehman: “To be honest, I think all these respective banks are very experienced and have good networks as well. They've gotten to the point of success after decades. I'm humbled that Wing Bank, in such a short amount of time, having gotten its commercial banking licence in the early 2020s, has gotten to the point it is today. I've worked in a few markets and the Cambodian digital financial market never stops amazing me. I think the way we've grown is, again, a result of this dynamic and this ever-growing adaptability of the market that the Cambodian population continues to show.”

B2B Cambodia: Can you share what's next for Wing Bank for the remainder of 2026, and going into 2027 in terms of the new digital tools or new market segments that the bank plans to enter?

Tallal Ur Rehman: "I feel like going forward, banking has to become invisible. Customers are not waking up in the morning and thinking about using a banking app. What they have is goals and dreams. They want to get a degree, they want to have a house, or they want to plan for their wedding, right? At the end of the day, banking has to be so seamless and simplistic that we're able to fulfil these dreams and goals for these customers. So, banking has to kind of take the back seat. Still very much in control, but we would have to embed ourselves into each journey that the customer goes through, each digital journey. Not necessarily all financial, but then plugging ourselves in so that we can still stay relevant and still make transactions as seamless as possible.

I'm really excited to see where we go from here. The market is big enough for all the players. I think if we continue to do good things, or continue to create better products, the market is going to be more educated, become better and more adaptable to new products. In the end, it's going to be a win, not just for Wing Bank, but for Cambodian digital financial services at large. That's what we're aiming for.
