Cambodia and Georgia Signal Tech Strategic Alliance as Georgian National Bank Eyes 'Bakong' Adoption

In a move that underscores Cambodia’s rising influence in the global FinTech landscape, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, H.E. Chea Vandeth, held high-level talks with the Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, H.E. Ekaterine Galdava, to discuss the potential integration of Cambodian digital payment frameworks into the Georgian financial ecosystem.

The meeting focused on the "exportability" of Cambodia’s homegrown digital successes, specifically the Bakong blockchain-based payment system and the verify.gov.kh platform, according to a news release from the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications on February 13.

Minister Vandeth detailed how Cambodia's digital infrastructure has transitioned from a domestic utility to a regional powerhouse, now facilitating seamless, secure transactions across approximately 10 Asian nations.

"The success of Bakong and our unified digital platforms has not only simplified life for our citizens but has become a trusted bridge for international commerce and tourism," he noted during the exchange.

In reply, Governor Galdava praised the National Bank of Cambodia’s technological trajectory, expressing a keen interest in the technical architecture that allows for such high levels of interoperability and security.

The two parties explored: Potential roadmaps for deploying Bakong-style infrastructure in Georgia; Strengthening the ongoing collaboration between the National Bank of Georgia and the National Bank of Cambodia; How the verify.gov.kh model can enhance administrative efficiency and document authentication in the Caucasus region.
