B2B Cambodia Market Update - 29 May 2024

This is a B2B Cambodia Market Update for 29 May 2024, reviewing the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) and global markets.

  • The Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index was down 0.53 points, or 0.13 per cent, to 416.19.
  • Total trade volume was also down to 224,135 shares changing hands at a total trading value of around 754 million Khmer riel or over 184,000 US dollars. 
  • On the Main Board, the biggest percentage gain winner was Grand Twins International (GTI), up 3.04 per cent or 70 riel to 2,370 riel per share. 
  • Grand Twins International was followed by the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (PPSP), which was up 2.64 per cent or 60 riel to 2,330 riel per share. 
  • The Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone also saw the highest shares traded, with 79,341 shares changing hands at a value of 182.9 million Khmer riel or over 44,700 US Dollars.
  • On the downside, Pestech Cambodia PLC (PEPC) was the biggest loser of the day, down 3.75 per cent or 90 riel to 2,310 riel per share. 
  • CAMGSM also saw a percentage decrease of 0.41 per cent or 10 riel per share, reaching a share price of 2,430 riel per share.
  • Meanwhile on the growth board, JS Land (JSL) was down 2.33 per cent to 4,200 riel per share while DBE Engineering’s (DBDE) share price remain unchanged at 2,190 riel per share. 
     
  • The Khmer riel to USD continued to weaken to 4,083 riel per US dollar, while the US dollar index was slightly up to 104.70.
  • Oil prices rose on Wednesday on expectations that major producers will extend output cuts at a meeting on Sunday and that fuel consumption will start rising with the start of the peak summer demand season.
  • Brent crude futures for July delivery added 74 cents, or 0.9 per cent, to $84.96 US dollars a barrel.
  • Gold prices edged lower on Wednesday, with spot gold easing 0.2 per cent to $2,356.92 US dollars per ounce around the time of the Cambodian market’s closing. Prices had previously hit an all-time high of $2,449.89 US dollars on May 20. 
  • U.S. gold futures rose 0.1 per cent to $2,357.80 US dollars.
  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 0.6 per cent or 216.73 points to close at 38,852.86. 
  • The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite finished at 17,019.88, rising 0.6 per cent. 
  • The S&P 500 gained 1.32 points to finish at 5,306.04.
